Grab and Go Update

Our next Grab and Go will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 due to the holiday weekend.

Additionally, Fredericktown Local Schools will be serving grab and go breakfast/lunch combos through June 29, 2020 in the high school parent loop behind the high school.

We will be doing one food distribution for the entire week. These meals are free for ALL students in our district. The meals will be distributed between the hours of 11AM-12PM.

Please come with the student name(s) written on a piece of paper to hand to a staff member. This will help the line move faster. Thank you!

COVID-19 Legislation for Schools

The Ohio General Assembly recently passed legislation that addresses several educational matters during this public health crisis. We believe that the legislation passed by the General Assembly addresses many of the issues and questions that are weighing on you, our staff, students and community.

  • State and federal testing is eliminated for the 2019-2020 school year;
  • State report cards will not be issued for the 2019-2020 school year (note that these are the state-issued report cards for schools and school districts, not student report cards);
  • Third-grade reading guarantee retention requirements are waived;
  • Schools can grant high school diplomas to students on track to graduate and for whom the principal determines that the student has successfully completed the curriculum;
  • Individuals with appropriate state licenses are allowed to provide services electronically or via telehealth communication to students with special needs;
  • Boards of education may use electronic communication for in-person meetings and hearings during the emergency period, but not later than Dec. 1, 2020;
  • School districts may use distance learning to make up any number of days or hours necessary to meet minimum instructional hour requirements.

There will be additional guidance that follows this legislation and we commit to providing updates as information is received.

Coronavirus Information

The Fredericktown Local School District continues to be proactive about the health of our students and staff, and has been working proactively with the Knox County Health Department on the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Although the Centers for Disease Control still considers the risk to the general public to be low, we feel it necessary to take precautionary steps to inform our community of possible risk.

Preventative measures continue to be our best line of defense against COVID-19. The following recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health help avoid not only COVID-19, but also the flu and common cold:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.
  • Cover coughs/sneezes with your arm or a tissue.
  • Avoid exposure to others who are sick.
  • Stay home you are ill (except to visit a health care professional) and avoid close contact with others.
  • Get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals to ensure a healthy immune system.

We also want to provide parents with important links and resources to help answer any questions that they may have, as well as more up to date information from the Knox County Health Department, Ohio Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control.
