The North Central District Science Day and the Marion Area Science and Engineering Fair took place on Saturday, March 19th at the Ohio State University Marion Campus. FHS fared well, as three of Dr. Carmen Dixon’s students competed and were judged a minimum of four different times. Kendra Denton received a “Superior” rating on her project entitled “Vim and Vinegar,” Lauren Partington received a “Superior” rating on her project “Prosthetic Hand” along with the Yale University Science and Engineering Award. Ryan Matthews also received a “Superior” rating for his project entitled “Agricultural Robotics: Farming’s Future.” In addition, Ryan received four special awards. He won top engineering project, top 11th grade project including a scholarship of $1500.00 to OSU Marion, and an award from the Ohio Soybean Council that included $100.00, and a Governor’s Award from the State of Ohio. Also, Ryan’s project was rated 6th overall top project out of 102 projects judged that day. All students are invited to compete in the Ohio State Science Day, taking place at OSU Columbus on May 14th. In addition to ratings, multiple special awards will be offered as well as numerous college scholarships.
