It is with bittersweet emotions that I write this letter as I begin my last month as your superintendent. On June 3rd I will assume the same position in the River Valley School District.
When I applied for the position of Superintendent of Schools, four years ago, I said it was like coming home. It turned out to be so true. I have made many friends in the community, enjoyed working with a talented group of professional educators and staff, and have been honored to get to know the many fine students and families here in Fredericktown.
Although I am leaving the district, the district will always hold a special place in my heart and in my life. We have accomplished many great things together - Race to the Top, Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor, a New Mission, Vision, and Value statements, and Excellent Ratings. I could continue to list many, many more facts, accomplishments, and upcoming plans or activities to illustrate the District’s well- rounded, quality education for the students of Fredericktown. I hope some of the listed accomplishments impart the fact that we have a great school district with hard working personnel anxious to educate your children. I am very proud of this community, proud of our accomplishments, proud of our state and national recognition, and most of all proud of the fact that we consistently placed the education, care and nurturing of students first! Again it has been my privilege to serve this fine community as the superintendent. Thank you for welcoming me into this great community and all the support you have offered over the last four years. I cherish the time spent here, and hold the best hopes and wishes for the Fredericktown Schools. I look forward to our paths crossing in the future.
In closing, I would, on behalf of the Board of Education and entire staff, congratulate and honor the following retiring teachers and staff for their years of dedicated service to the Fredericktown Local School District. Our retirees are Larry Hazen 35 years, Sue Melick 35 years, Robert Moore 29 years, Bill Bradley 26 years, Don DeMarco 25 years, Phyllis Burdette 22 years, Tim Birie 18 years, Sue Ann Overholt 17 years, and Kathleen Carpenter 7 years. “Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible.” Please join me in wishing these teachers and staff members the best of luck as they enter another stage of their life. Thank you for all the years of service to our students, parents, staff and community!
- James P. Peterson, Superintendent
