The boys and girls Cross Country teams competed in the regional meet this past weekend at Pickerington North high school.
The girls were regional runner ups after finishing second out of 16 teams and earning a trip to the state meet next Saturday. Leading the girls was freshman Nichole Groseclose who was named All-region after finishing 12th. She was followed by senior Rachel Caputo 20th, junior Rachel Tumbleson 22nd , sophomore Lauren Davis 24th, junior Emily Cobb 40th, sophomore Ashlyn Shrimplin 49th, and senior Bridget Roddy 71st.
This is the fifth girls team in school history to earn a state berth and the first team since 2010.
The boys captured their first Regional championship in school history by winning the regional meet and earning a berth in the state meet as well. The boys were led by junior Wyat Harmon 4th, and senior Zac Stalnaker 12th, who were named All–Region. They were joined by senior Caleb Carter 25th, sophomore Brad Wolford 32nd, freshman Paden Spencer 50th, sophomore Wil Overholt 61st and junior Dillon Randall 90th.
This is the seventh boys team in school history to earn a state berth and the boys team finished 9th last year in the state meet.
It is the first time in program history that both teams have qualified for the state meet in the same year.
