Parent Lockdown Information

Parents are encouraged to read the attached information sheet from Superintendent Matt Chrispin regarding annual lockdown drills and procedures.

Attendance Quick Facts

It is important for every student to attend school every day. Missing too much school has long-term, negative effects on students, such as lower achievement and graduation rates. In December 2016, the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill 410 to encourage and support a preventative approach to excessive absences and truancy. Fredericktown Local Schools is implementing the changes required by House Bill 410, which is encompassed in detail in the Student/Parent Handbook. Click here to download the quick facts.

Cafeteria Charge Policy

The food service department is pleased to offer breakfast and lunch to all students. Applications for free or reduced priced meals are available at each school office and on the school web site www.fredericktownlocalschools.com. Applications may be filled out ANY time during the school year!

We understand that occasionally a child may forget his/her lunch money therefore we allow students to charge a meal under the following guidelines:

Middle School Dance

The middle school student council will be hosting its spring dance on Friday, May 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The dance will feature a sports theme, and the cost of admission is $3.00. Photos, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase. As always, the dance is only open to Fredericktown middle school students.

BOE Meeting Cancelled

The March Board of Education scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be April 11th.

K-5 Parent Teacher Conferences will still take place as scheduled.

Active Parenting Classes

Parents and Teens: Improve your relationship and transform your future! Participate in one of two classes (one for parents and one for teens) to take control of your life and learn how to communicate and cooperate with one another better. Dinner and a gas stipend will be provided for families who attend this free six week class in Mount Vernon and a $50 gift card will be awarded for successful completion of the course. Magic Gives Back

8th Grade Boys win COAL Championship

The Fredericktown 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team won the COAL Championship on Saturday, February 11th, which took place at Fredericktown Schools. The Freddies defeated Buckeye Valley to win the overall COAL Championship.

They were also Blue Division champions as they finished the season undefeated at 19-0.

This group finished middle school with a two-year record of 36-2. Congratulations to the coaching staff and the boys!

February 1st Events

Hidden in Plain Sight is an awareness program for adults. The program will be presented in the elementary commons on February 1, 2017 from 5-6 p.m. Additional opportunities to view the display and ask questions will be provided from 6-8 p.m. Explore an interactive exhibit, resembling a teen’s bedroom with more than 100 items that could indicate dangerous or risky behavior. The presentation will cover substance abuse, eating disorders, internet and technology risks, risky games, challenges and more. Fredericktown Local Schools is happy to host this event sponsored by the Knox Substance Abuse Action Team.

Secondly, high school students who are interested in taking College Credit Plus (CCP) classes for the 2017-2018 school year are required to attend a mandatory meeting on February 1 from 6-7 p.m. in the middle/high school commons. This meeting is for students and parents. We will have representatives from COTC, OSU, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, North Central State College and the KCCC College U program to share information with you.

Finally, middle and high school teachers will be available to discuss scheduling choices and academic progress from 5-8 p.m.

Knox County Spelling Bee Competition

Students in grades 5-8 competed in our school spelling bees in this winter.  Each participant did a wonderful job.  Congratulations to our winners and runner-ups in each grade!  Our fifth grade champion, Brandon Cobb, went on to win the 57th Annual Knox County Spelling Bee in round 16 by correctly spelling “malacca.”  Brandon is also hoping to qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee which will take place at Ohio University in March.

College Credit Plus (CCP) Night

Interested in taking College Credit Plus (CCP) classes for next year? There will be a mandatory meeting about CCP on February 1 from 6-7 p.m. in the High School Commons for both students and their parents. Representatives from COTC, OSU, MVNU and NCSC will be available to discuss options for students and a variety of considerations for participation in the program will be discussed. CCP intent forms are due to the guidance office by April 1 to participate for the 2017-18 school year (click here for form). This form is required for any CCP class taken in and/or out of FHS.

Concert Update

Due to inclement weather, the Winter Concert scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for Thursday. More information will be forthcoming.

2 HOUR DELAY

Due to a Wind Chill advisory for Knox County, Fredericktown Schools will be operating on a 2 HOUR DELAY on Thursday, December 15th.

Donation from FT Precision

Many thanks to FT Precision for their continued support of the Fredericktown Local School District. Pictured is Manager Megumi Sasaki presenting Superintendent Matt Chrispin with a check for $500 raised by the FTP Associates. Chrispin stated, “FT Precision continues to be a gracious supporter of our staff and students. We are thankful for their generosity.”

District 10 Honors Band

The Fredericktown Band Department is proud to announce that six of our MS & HS band students have been selected to participate in the District 10 Honors Band. These FLS students will join students from all over North-Central Ohio to perform a concert at the Chapel at MVNU. This free concert will begin at 3:30pm this Saturday, December 3rd. Once again, congratulations to the following FLS students:

Holiday Concerts

The Fredericktown Music Department is proud to present our 2016 Holiday Concerts: Sounds of the Season. Our Middle School Bands & Choirs will be performing on Thursday, December 8th in the Elementary Commons at the following times:

6th Grade Band - 6:00pm
MS Choir - 6:45pm
7th & 8th Grade Band - 7:30pm

Our High School Band and Choir will be performing a joint concert on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00pm in the Elementary Commons. Admission is free for all concerts, so come out and enjoy some wonderful holiday music!
